The factory fire in Dandenong South poses a risk to local waterways because of the potential for chemicals stored on the site to leak into nearby stormwater drains. Melbourne Water worked closely with CFA and EPA Victoria to reduce potential for chemicals to make their way through drains and into Eumemmering Creek, 3 kilometres from the factory.
CSA was commissioned by Melbourne Water and helped in creating a temporary dam in the Abbots Road Drain to stop any chemicals flowing through into Eumemmering Creek. This gave CSA a chance to isolate and suck out any contaminated runoff, and dispose of it carefully. Our specialised vacuum truck removed 1,000,000 litres of contaminated runoff from the Abbots Road in total.
